This song is part of a story I am writing just now and will be found when its ready by a link from this page free for anyone to read.

In older days wandering Celtic Musicians would travel round small villages and towns busking and performing at weddings, funerals and social events.

If there was someone in the village who was ill they would often play for them to try and cheer them up.
In this song the whole town has become sad and forgotten how to be happy even in hard times until an old roving man comes round and cheers them all up.
Once everyone in the town is singing and dancing the old roving man slips away unseen to the next sad town.

verse 1
There was a little town, just a sad little town,
no more than a mile around,
just a sad little town, where all the people frowned,
for years they'd been that way,

then into this town came an old roving man,
with a funny looking hat and coat,
he said gather around, come gather around,
and I'll sing you a happy song, he sang!

chorus

oollee-aallee-ayy,oollee-aallee-ayy,
oollee aallee-ayy,
oollee-aallee-ayy,oollee-allee-ayy,
oollee-aallee-ayy.

verse 2

So they gathered all around,in this sad little town,
where everyone stood and stared,
not a smile could be found,on the faces all around,
as the old man sung away,

then the smallest little girl, she did a little twirl,
and caused them all to sway,
then the smallest little girl, who did the little twirl,
she smiled and sang this way-she sang!

verse 3

Now this happy little girl,in this sad little town,
kept dancing all around,
till all the other boys, and all the other girls,
they danced around as well,

all the adults who had stared, they laughed without a care,
and danced around the town,
so happy were they all,no one noticed at all,
that the old man he had gone-they sang!

verse 4

So if your in a little town, that's a sad little town,
no more than a mile around,
just a sad little town, where everybody frowns,
and for years they've been that way,

one day into your town will come an old roving man,
with a funny looking hat and coat,
and he'll gather you around, and take away your frowns,
as he sings you a happy song-he'll sing!
